About Whiskey Hill Studios
Whiskey Hill Studios is located in Woodside, California.
We offer state of the art recording facilities in an intimate, warm setting conducive to creativity.
In November 2004 the doors opened at Whiskey Hill Studio. Roger Choplin, a retired software developer and avid guitar player/collector joined forces with friend, luthier and recording engineer Mike Gold whom he met while having instruments serviced at a local stringed instrument shop. The Studio started as a place where Roger and friends could play without having to "turn it down !!" and occasionally knock out some tunes on the recording rig Mike was using for sometime had time. After several people commented on the remarkable sound achieved with such a modest setup. Roger decided to make the investment in a Top-of-the-Line Pro Tools System. There's no lack of firepower here! Need to mix a complex tune that requires a lot of "treatment" (onboard and outboard effect processors), no worries. Can do.
The surroundings are like being in the country, yet all of the modern day urban conveniences are just a minute or two away. It is the perfect environment for getting away from the Hi-Tech grind and for expressing one's creativity.

Had the pleasure of Recording at Roger's Whiskey Hill Studios in Woodside and the result was some of the Best work that I have ever had on me from my 40+ records. I recommend it Highly, and had a fun time with some Vintage Gear, too.

It is just very cool to be able to play these guitars and amps in a place where you can turn things up and really hear how they sound....you really have more than a studio but you have a great place to get guitar freaks like you and me hooked on new equipment. Your stuff has really opened my ears up to the vintage sound!

A beautiful and embracing environment to create and record music. Roger Choplin has created a great studio that makes the artist feel at ease. I have recorded at a variety of studio's in L.A. and S.F. and Whiskey Hill is one of my favorites!

Recording at Whiskey Hill Studios continues to be a deeply satisfying experience. The setting is relaxed and convivial, while the studio is fully professional with the finest audio equipment and streamlined technologies; it's easy both to focus and to be inspired, a great combination for any live recording. Engineer Mike Gold is well-versed on the most up-to-date recording processes and techniques, and has an extensive knowledge of acoustic and electric instruments, which allows him to provide thoughtful insight into each track. I would recommend Whiskey Hill without reservation, and I have been delighted by the results each time I've recorded there.

My experience recording at Whiskey Hill has been really relaxed and enjoyable.
I've done two sessions at Whiskey Hill with Mike Gold engineering. Both times were a blast! The facilities are top notch and Mike pays attention to every detail. Working at Whiskey Hill helped us to improve our overall sound.
